Gene H. Snider, age 83, Oldfield, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009. He was born February 25, 1926, in Bruner, the son of William "Newt" and Elsie Mae (Hull) Snider. Gene served his country in the U.S. Navy. In 1955, he married Shirley Sue Hesterlee. Gene was involved in area stock car racing as a car owner for more than 30 years and was inducted into the Racers Hall of Fame. He owned and operated Motor Machine Shop in Springfield until his retirement. After retiring he worked his cattle farm. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Sue Snider, Oldfield; three daughters, Connie Blevins and husband, James, Sparta, Linda Parr and husband, Joe, and Susan Pickens and husband, Michael, both of Springfield; two sons, Larry Willis and wife, Liz, and Jerry Willis and wife, Rachael, both of Michigan; 11 grandchildren, including Amanda Pickens, with whom he was able to share a special bond; numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Jack Snider, Oldfield, Mo., and Frank Snider and wife, Shirley, Springfield; and two uncles, Wayne Snider, Springfield, and Melvin Hull, Oklahoma. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Helen Snider; and a brother, Jerry Snider. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, with full military honors. Reverend Bally Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in Bruner Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Old Bruner Schoolhouse, in care of Adams Funeral Home.
