Avis de décès de Frederick Strong

FREDERICK STRONG FREDERICK STRONG, Age 96, died May 22, 2010 in Bloomfield Hills after a short illness. "Fritz" was born in Washington Barracks, in Washington, DC on September 2, 1913 and raised in Orchard Lake, MI where he developed a love for golf, swimming and sailing, activities that he continued throughout his life. He attended St. Paul's School in Concord, NH (1931), Princeton University (BA 1935) and Harvard University (MBA 1937). Fritz was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII, achieving the rank of Major. He served in the Pacific Theatre where he met his wife, Mary West, a Red Cross volunteer. They were married in 1948. She preceded him in death in 1987. Fritz later married Elizabeth "Betty" Shontz, who also preceded him in death. Fritz worked for Ford Motor Co. in their Detroit and Chicago offices and then for National Bank of Detroit. He retired from NBD in 1978 as a Vice President and Trust Officer. For the past 20 years Fritz divided his time between Michigan, Long Island, NY and Vero Beach, FL. Besides continuing to swim and sail he was a competitive golfer and bridge player into his 80's when macular degeneration made playing impossible. Later in life he developed a passion for Croquet, which he played in "whites" on Long Island. Fritz was a member of the Princeton Club, Harvard Club, Riomar Country Club, Orchard Lake Country Club and The Village Club. One event he attended faithfully every five years was the "Princeton Reunions", including the "P- rade". Fritz was a member of Christ Church Cranbrook and served for many years as an usher and also as a member of the Vestry. Until the last two months, Fritz traveled regularly on his own to visit his children, grandchildren and friends around the country. His bright smile and sense of personal connection with all he met will be missed by friends and family alike. Survivors include his 3 children: Frederick S. IV (Sue), Robert A.W. (Mary) and Eugenie M. Kauffman (Philip), 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and a sister Rosamond Bradshaw. Preceded in death by his brother John "Jack" Strong and recently, his sister Marjorie "Peggy" Richardson. Services will be held privately.
