Family-Placed Funeral Notice JANET LOCKWOOD WALLACE April 11, 1918 - July 6, 2005 Janet Lockwood Wallace, widow of F. Earl Wallace, Jr. of Delray Beach, Florida and Blowing Rock, North Carolina, passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, July 6, 2005.  Janet was the daughter of the late Rhoda Birdsall and Trevette Lockwood of Palm Beach.  She was born in West Palm  Beach at her father's hotel which later became the Helen Wilkes Hotel, and moved to Palm Beach at an early age. Her father was Town Manager of Palm Beach from 1925 until his death in the early 1950's. She met her future husband, Earl, at Palm Beach High School where she was secretary and he was president of their class. Janet graduated from Florida State College for Women (now F.S.U.) and received her Masters of Social Welfare from U.N.C. - Chapel Hill. She was a member of Kappa Delta sorority. Janet Birdsall Lockwood and F. Earl Wallace, Jr. were married in August, 1942 as Earl was going off to war. After his return they lived in Palm Beach and West Palm Beach until 1951 when they moved their then small family to Delray Beach. The family grew and so did their presence in the community. They are well remembered for the Earl Wallace Ford dealership on 8th Street and US 1, Country Squire station wagons never quite large enough to hold their burgeoning family, and their bustling home full of kids and friends on Thomas Street. Mrs. Wallace was president of the Junior League of Palm Beach, always belonged to at least one book club and prayer group and was an early member of The Poinciana Garden Club. She was a member of Children's Home Society of Florida, volunteered with special education children and was co-founder of the Conservatory of Arts for Handicapped Citizens of Palm Beach County.    Janet was a devout Episcopalian who was very active at St. Joseph's Episcopal Church in Boynton Beach where she was a member of the Altar Guild and Daughters of the King.  She spent her summers in North Carolina where she was a member of St. Mary of the Hills Church in Blowing Rock. There she relished the mountain life - her farm, hiking, picking berries, and her view of the sunset over Grandfather Mountain.    Mrs. Wallace, nicknamed Sunflower by her family, was an intellectually curious person who took many classes at FAU, and was, by family calculations, perhaps only nine hours short of a PhD. She possessed a wanderlust, kept her passport close at hand, and was always ready for a new adventure. She loved dogs, horses, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren fiercely and not necessarily in that order!  Survivors include her children, F. Earl Wallace III, New Orleans, LA, Mary Aubrey Wallace, Indian Wells, CA, William L. Wallace, Palm Beach, FL, Trevette L. Wallace, Boca Raton, FL, Arienne Wallace, Dahlonega, GA, and C. Stetson Wallace, Delray Beach; ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Of great comfort to her were her good friend Mollie Frazer, her niece Trevette Hawkins, and her Yorkshire Terrier, Puddin. Janet was predeceased by her beloved friend and devoted husband, F. Earl Wallace, Jr.  in 1981, her sister Emilie Sug Babcock, in 1993, and her nephew Stanley Wallace Holden, in 1967.  A memorial service will be held at St. Joseph's Episcopal Church in Boynton Beach, Florida on Friday, July 8, 2005 at 4:00 in the afternoon. Contributions, if desired, may be made in Mrs. Wallace's memory to St. Joseph's Episcopal Church, Building Fund, 3300 S. Seacrest Blvd., Boynton Beach, FL 33435. Boynton Memorial ChapelFamily owned & operated(561) 734-5600
