<!-- FH = KNIGHT, KIM -->KNIGHT, Eugene, passed on March 29, 2012. He was born July 3, 1924 in Tampa, FL, the youngest son of Dora Gillispie Knight and John Britt Knight. He graduated from Hillsborough High School and joined the U.S. Army, proudly serving his country during World War II. He attended The University of Tampa, with a focus on math and chemistry. During the 1930's he and his family established The Old 97 Company, which manufactured and sold perfumes, personal care and household products. He was the chemist and perfumer, manager and final family owner of the business. Eugene was a creative builder, architect and engineer, spending his life designing, sketching, building and engineering many projects including his homes, boats and machines. He built his dream home on the Hillsborough River and lived there for more than 50 years. Eugene was affectionately called "Papa" by close family and friends. In his leisure time, "Papa" could be found sailing his boat in Tampa Bay and smoking his pipe. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Hazel Thrower Knight, son; Barry D. Knight of Pensacola, daughter; Kimberly D. Knight of Tampa, daughter and son-in-law; Brenda and Vernon Smith of Fort Pierce, 6 grandchildren; Christopher Smith, Kathy Petrone, Karen Espling, Jaime Wood, Jr., Philippa Wood and Megan Knight. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter; Penelope Knight Wood, brothers; John Britt Knight, Jr., Finley C. Knight and sisters; Virginia Knight Nichols and Alice Knight Edwards. Friends will be received on Friday, April 6, 2012 from 11AM until time of service at 12PM at the Chapel of JGR Funeral Home, 6718 N. Armenia Ave., Tampa.
