WATT, Elsie Ellen (nee Rankin)February 21, 1930 - August 8, 2012My sister and I sat quietly holding Mom's hands as she passed away on Wednesday, August 8. It was hard to let go of our gentle, loving mom but we trust she is in good hands. During her seven-month struggle with cancer, we have been blessed with the kindness of family and friends. Mom was touched by the outpouring of love. Elsie was a nurturer throughout her life. She began as a nurse after graduating from the Calgary General Hospital in 1952 and later completed the public health care nursing program at the University of Alberta. When Elsie had children, she committed her life to being a mother. After her daughters were grown, Elsie embarked with enthusiasm into a new adventure as a realtor where she had a passion to find the right home for every person or family. When she retired from real estate she lovingly cared for her grandchildren and returned to painting. She loved to paint and always said that in each picture she left a little piece of herself. We are grateful to have these legacies. The most important thing to Elsie was her relationships with people. She was a devoted wife of 50 years to Vinton Watt and caring, wonderful mom to Heather (Brent) Conradson and Sandy (Kelly) Kizan. She was a soft, caring and supportive nana to her grandchildren, Bronwyn, Ben, Ryanna and Jesse. She is survived by many family and friends who she loved and cherished including her sisters and sisters-in-law, Agnes Vandermark, Merle Hagen, Marlene Rankin, Enid Manson, Maureen Watt, her lifelong friends, Betty Ellis, Jeanie Clow, Dorothy Fowler as well as numerous very special nieces, nephews and cousins. The world is left a better place because of Elsie. She taught us that love and kindness are what really matter. We would be honored if you would join us to celebrate her life at the Cochrane RancheHouse (101 RancheHouse Road, Cochrane) at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 15. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter, P.O. Box 52051, Edmonton Trail North, Calgary, AB T2E 8K9 (Telephone 403-539-5131), an organization that Mom has supported for years. In living memory of Elsie Watt, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park, Cochrane.
