CALLAHAN Elizabeth Papp Callahan, age 80, formerly a long time resident of the Black Rock section of Bridgeport and Shelton, died peacefully on Thursday December 23 in her daughter's home in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. She was the beloved wife of 51 years to the late James M. Callahan, DDS. Elizabeth was born on January 19, 1930 in Bridgeport to the late Laszlo and Elizabeth Horvath Papp. She was a proud graduate of Saint Stephen's School and Bassick High School in 1947. She graduated from Saint Vincent's College in 1950 and worked for many years as a registered nurse in the maternity ward at St. Vincent's Medical Center. She subsequently worked as a nurse in the Bridgeport school system and later, after a long professional hiatus to raise her family, as a registered nurse at 3030 Park Health Center from which she retired in 1995. Elizabeth was a devoted care giver, but her most cherished role was in being wife and mother to her four children. She is survived by her loving children James, of Shelton, David, and his wife Halina of Severna Park, MD, Matthew, and his wife Carly, of Madison, and Kathleen, of Basking Ridge, NJ. Elizabeth was the loving grandmother of James, Joseph, Jason, Ryan, Catherine and Caroline. She also leaves behind her dearly loved sister Irene Pazar, and her husband John, of Upper St. Clair, PA. In addition, she leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Wednesday December 29, 2010 at St. Ann Church, 481 Brewster Street in Bridgeport. Burial will follow at Lawncroft Cemetery in Fairfield. Friends may call from 3 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center.
