Elizabeth M. (Shaw) Betty Callahan of Quincy, died Jan. 16, 2014. The beloved wife of the late Joseph J. Callahan Sr., she was the loving mother of Joseph J. Callahan Jr. and his wife Peggy of Quincy and Judith McGillicuddy and her husband Joseph of Quincy; sister of Margaret Crockett of Fla., and the late Anne Kelly, David and Paul Shaw; devoted grandmother of Joseph, Anna and Thomas McGillicuddy. Betty grew up in Roxbury. She graduated from Northeastern University, Class of 1964. She worked for New England Telephone for 50 years. A firm supporter of education, Betty also had a strong work ethic which she instilled in her children. She was a consummate role mole. She was member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Boston Tea Party Chapter as well as a longtime member of the Pioneers Club. She and her husband were very active in veteran's causes and she was especially proud of her role in the children Christmas parties at the William R. Caddy Detachment Marine Corps League and the VA hospital parties at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Brockton. She enjoyed gardening, reading and studying history. The essence of her life was her family, they were the foundation of all that was truly important to her. She will be remembered for her fun loving personality, her intelligence, her kind heart and most importantly her forgiving spirit. She will be deeply missed by all those who were blessed to have known her. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours Monday 4-7 p.m. in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., Quincy. A celebration of life service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday prior to the funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Quincy, at 10 a.m. Burial in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy.
