Avis de décès de Elizabeth-Butler Warner


TUSCALOOSA Elizabeth Butler Warner died on Wednesday, February 14 at LaRocca Nursing Home in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She was the devoted wife for 67 years of Jonathan Westervelt Warner. Mrs. Warner, a native of Jacksonville, Florida, was the daughter of Senator and Mrs. J. Turner Butler. She attended Sweet Briar College in Sweet Briar, Virginia and graduated from the University of Alabama with a business degree. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Cecil Butler Williams of Tuscaloosa. Survivors include her husband, Jonathan W. Warner, 2 sons Jonathan W. Warner, Jr. (Sheila) of Tuscaloosa and David Turner Warner of Hawthorne, Florida, 3 grandchildren, Matthew Cade Warner, Jonathan Westervelt Warner, III and Elizabeth Butler Warner, niece, Cecil Williams Hartley, and nephews, Turner Butler Williams and Ford Williams.Mrs. Warner was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Colonial Dames of America, the Tuscaloosa County Preservation Society, The Tuesday Night Supper Club and numerous other civic clubs and organizations. Mrs. Warner was a very special lady who was admired by all who knew her. She was respected for her intellect and her deep interest and concern for the community. Along with her husband, she funded innumerable programs and projects.The family extends their gratitude to Jerome Whitfield, Mrs. Evelyn Hardy and staff at the LaRocca Nursing home, Mrs. Earline Doss and the nurses from Able Hands Nursing Care and to Mrs. Rose Evans, her nurse and friend for the past ten years. She will be buried at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Friday, February 16 at 1 p.m. Family and friends will be received in the Warner Hall immediately following the service.In lieu of flowers, the Warner family requests that memorial gifts be made to the University of Alabama's Culverhouse College of Commerce for the Elizabeth Butler Warner Scholarship in Creativity and Innovation at the University of Alabama, Box 870101, Tuscaloosa, AL 35487-0223. This scholarship will honor Mrs. Warner's memory for generations to come by fostering creativity and innovation in the training and education of future business leaders. Donations may also be made to the Elizabeth Butler Warner Library and Media Center at Rock Quarry Elementary School, 2000 Rock Quarry Drive, Tuscaloosa, AL 35406.
