Elizabeth Burrall Emery, 96, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at Havenwood-Heritage Heights in Concord. Elizabeth "Betty" Emery was born in East Machias, Maine on Aug. 7, 1917. She was the daughter of the late F. Philip Emery and Rebecca Talbot Emery of Reading, Mass. She lived in the family home in Reading for 70 years. Elizabeth graduated from the Clarke School for the Deaf in Northampton, Mass. in 1935 and Reading High School in 1938. She worked most of her career as a clerk for American Mutual Insurance Company in Wakefield, Mass. Elizabeth is remembered for her sweet smile and love of life. She enjoyed visiting family and friends, traveling, gardening, quilting and attending Bible studies. She was inducted into the Clarke School Alumni Hall of Fame in 1995. She was a member of Grace Chapel in Lexington, Mass. where she was actively involved in their Deaf Ministry before moving to New Hampshire where she became a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Concord. Elizabeth enjoyed living at Havenwood-Heritage Heights, a faith based retirement community where she had many close friends and was involved in the various activities the community offered. Elizabeth is predeceased by her three brothers, F. Talbot Emery of Boothbay Harbor, Maine, Lawrence W. Emery of Bangor, Maine and James T. Emery of Wilmington, Mass.; as well as a niece, Eugenia White of Westford, Mass. She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Emery of Wayne, Maine and Doris Emery of East Sandwich, Mass. She is also survived by 12 nieces and nephews and their families, Madaline Syvertson of South Hampton, Rebecca Biggar of Chelmsford, Mass., Peter Emery of Wayne, Maine, Larry Emery of Williamsport, Pa., Phil Emery of Bangor, Maine, Steve Emery of Bangor, Maine, Tim Emery of Bucksport, Maine, Tom Emery of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, Peggy Wagner of Howell, N.J., ElizaBeth Emery of Gloucester, Mass., Jane Emery-Downey of East Parsonsfield, Maine and Patricia Emery of East Sandwich, Mass.; as well as several grandnieces and nephews and great-grandnieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 1 p.m. at Havenwood-Heritage Heights in Concord.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech, 45 Round Hill Road, Northampton, MA 01060 (clarkeschools.org) or the local hospice of your choice.
