Eleanor Mae (Gillis) Burke, 98 years of age, entered life eternal April 16, 2013, at the Colonial Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Weymouth. She was born at Prince Edward Island, Canada, and had resided in Braintree before moving to Weymouth. She had been a licensed practical nurse at Milton Hospital. She had been a member of the Fort Square Presbyterian Church in Quincy. Eleanor enjoyed traveling and had traveled to Ireland, Jamaica and Arizona. She had also taken cruises. She was proficient at baking and cooking. She enjoyed coffee hours and parties. She was a lover of dogs, particularly her dogs, Bootsie and Baby Kelly. She was an avid Red Sox fan. She was the wife of the late Albert Burke. She is survived by her brother, Stanley Gillis of Weymouth. She was the sister of the late N. Jean Osmond of Braintree and Malcolm William Gillis, formerly of Littleton. She was the aunt of Derrie Pontonio of Weymouth, John Osmond of Spofford, N.H., Brian and Barry Gillis of Weymouth, Jack Gillis of Ayer, Debbie Galbraith of Holbrook, Nancy Osmond of London, England, and Carolyn Daley. She is also survived by many great-nieces and great-nephews. Visiting hours will be at the Mortimer N. Peck-Russell Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington St., Braintree, Monday, April 22, from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. to be followed by a funeral service at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. John Culp will officiate. Burial will follow at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Memorial donations may be sent to the One Fund Boston, Inc., to help the people most affected by the tragic events that occurred at the Boston Marathon finish line on April 15, 2013.
