DOWNEY _ Edward Victor (Ted) Downey age 71, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on November 13, 2003. He was the son of the late Margaret and Alfred Downey of Grand Forks. Ted is survived by his brother, Fred of Langley, loving wife Jean of 48 years of Christina Lake, daughters Jan Billows of Cloverdale, Lea Bates (Bruce) of White Rock and son Michael of Kelowna. Grandchildren: Rebecca and Jennifer Billows, Kristy, Jackie and Erin Bates and Matthew Downey. Ted was born in Victoria, grew up and received his education in Grand Forks. He was past master of Harmony Lodge of Grand Forks where he formed many lifelong friendships. Ted started the first automotive parts business in Grand Forks and called it Grand Forks Auto Supply which is now Napa. Following the sale of his business, Ted, Jean and family moved to Kelowna where he continued in the automotive business until his retirement in 1985 to their Christina Lake home. Ted loved fishing, hunting and the great outdoors. His favorite hobby was working on their lake home. Ted was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 18 at the Christina Lake Community Hall. Reverend Simon Shenstone officiating.
