Avis de décès de Douglas-W. Richardson

March 15, 2007 Douglas W. Richardson, 62, of Boca Raton, Florida, who co-founded G.O.A.L.S., Inc. (Go Out and Live Successfully), died March 15, 2007, at his home. He was 62. Doug and his wife, Nelda, founded G.O.A.L.S., Inc. in Florida in 1997 to assist individuals living with spinal cord injuries after he was involved in a car-truck accident which left him a quadriplegic. Over the years G.O.A.L.S., Inc. has helped provide greater mobility and independence for those with spinal cord injuries in 25 states. Prior to his injury Doug resided in Auburn and Syracuse, New York, and was in sales and management for the Houghton-Mifflin Company's school division. Prior to Houghton-Mifflin he was an elementary school teacher in Skaneateles, New York, and an off-campus supervisor of student teaching at the State University of New York College in Cortland, New York. Doug was born June 27, 1944, in Buffalo, New York, and grew up and attended high school in the Village of Brocton in Western New York State. In 2005 he was inducted into the Brocton Central High School's Hall of Fame in recognition of his humanitarian work with G.O.A.L.S. He was a Vietnam era Navy veteran and had received a master's degree in organizational behavior from Roosevelt University in Illinois. He pursued a doctorate at Syracuse University and completed the required course work but not the dissertation. Doug was an avid reader as well as a collector of baseball cards and sports memorabilia. He joked that he was reliving his childhood by building a collection of old baseball cards from the early to mid 1950's. He also enjoyed arguing politics over the internet and communicating with other fans of Syracuse University football and basketball. He loved dining out in Boca Raton and was a well-known figure in his wheelchair in the restaurant community. His wife, Nelda, predeceased him in April 2005. Survivors include his brother, Robert of Clifton Park, New York; and his stepson, Sean O'Neal of Aventura, Florida. A memorial reception in his honor will be held Friday, April 27, 2007, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Bellevue Country Club in Syracuse, New York. Gifts in his memory may be made to G.O.A.L.S., Inc., PO Box 1406, Boca Raton, FL 33429-1406.
