CONNELL-Doreen Adeline Connell (December 24,1922-November 24, 2008) was the tenth child born to Charles and Jessie (McMillan) Connell in Sylvania,SK. on December 24th, 1922. Her family later moved to a farm by Rose Valley, SK. where she grew up. During this time she built lifelong friendships with neighbours and schoolmates and often told stories about her 4-H accomplishments. She then moved to Burnaby, B.C. with her parents when they retired. It was there she worked at a paper mill and later met Casper Zimmer also from Rose Valley. They were married in Rose Valley on November 24th, 1958. They had one daughter, Marla, in 1961. Doreen and Casper moved on to the Zimmer farm after they were married. She loved working hard on the farm milking cows, raising chickens and pigs, gardening, baking and doing housework. She loved her farm animals and pets very much. Doreen also loved to dance (even occasionally to "jig" to her Irish music). The welcome mat was always out for family and friends to stay for a cup of coffee or a meal but she didn't like to leave the farm often. Shortly after Casper's stroke in 1993, they moved into Rose Valley where she lived until 2002. Doreen then moved to Lang, SK. to be by her daughter. She moved out to Coteau Range Manor in Avonlea,SK. in March 2007. It was there that late on November 24th she passed away with her daughter at her side. Doreen will be greatly missed and remembered by her daughter, Marla (Rudy) Ehr; four grandchildren, Chantelle (Jason), Brad (Dayle), Kelly and Kimberly. Her sisters in law, Helen Connell and Ida Connell, several of Casper's family, as well as many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Doreen was predeceased by her husband Casper (1998), father Charles (1958), mother Jessie (1967), brothers Bill (1946), Walter (1955), Leslie (1971), Harvey (1977), Allan (1988); sisters Gladys (1957), Kathleen (1986), Winnie (1991) and Merle (1998). Memorial Service for Doreen will be held Monday, December 8th at 2:00 P.M at the Rose Valley United Church. Arrangements are in care of Tompkins Funeral Home, Wadena, SK.
