WILLIAMS Donald “ Durham” Williams (D.D.), 71, went home to be with the Lord on April 6, 2004 at the Northeast FL. Hospice Center after a lengthy, but courageous battle with diabetes and heart disease. He was born in Charlotte, NC on May 30, 1932 to Daniel and Becky Greene Williams. Durham served in the US Army and was active in the Korean War. After moving to Jacksonville in 1962, he worked as plant manager for Sealtest Ice Cream, then later was a school bus contractor for Duval County from 1980-2001. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Melvin Williams and Algie Williams, a sister, Colin Norwood and a son-in-law, Chuck Geisler. He is survived by his loving wife of thirty-one wonderful years, Gladys Kilpatrick Williams; daughters, June Geisler, Susan Lord (Greg) and Shannon Bass (Garland) all of Jacksonville; a son, Terry Williams of Ellerbe, N.C.; grandchildren, Evie Walter (Chris) of Defiance, OH, Bobby Geisler, Daniel Geisler, Lauren Rivers and Tyler Bass al l of Jacksonville; one great-grandaughter, Grace Walter, Defiance. OH; brothers, Brad Williams, Olin Williams, Bill Williams, Frank Williams and sisters, Velma Harwood, Bronnie Little and Grace Stegall all of N.C. Durham will be most remembered for his love of the Lord and passionate desire to see souls saved. He worked in the bus ministry at University Baptist Church and served as Sunday School teacher and usher. At the time of his death he was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church. He enjoyed RV camping, family gatherings and simply lived life to the fullest. He felt fortunate to have experienced extended travel including a cherished trip to the Holy Land. He had many wonderful friends who will fondly remember his wit and his “ stories”. Durham was kind and generous and those closest to him feel very blessed to have had him in their lives. His home-going celebration will be at George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home at 4140 University Blvd. South. Funeral services are on Frid ay, April 9 at 12:30 PM with Rev. Scot Rippy and Jack Cummings, officiating. Pallbearers will be Bobby Geisler, Daniel Geisler, Barney Holley, Bob Samples, Dearl Broward and Alec Saunders. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Christian Light Foundation, P. O. Box 16791, Jacksonville, FL., 32245.
