Avis de décès de David-R. Hunt

HUNT, David R., 73, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at his home in Spring Hill surrounded by family. The son of Harold D. and Estella (Gummow) Hunt, he was born in Bridgewater, Mass. As a young man, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean war and graduated from The Franklin Institute in Boston. Although he had many different jobs early in his life, including a lawnmower shop in Bridgewater, ultimately he was a truck driver at heart. He retired in the year 2000 after more than 40 years of truck driving in Maine, Massachusetts and Florida. Dave truly believed good deeds brought their own rewards, raising his children with these values. He served as a volunteer fireman for many years, starting as a high school student when adult men were limited due to World War II. He loved swapping stories with those he met and no matter where he went he managed to find a friend. He was selfless in support of his children and grandchildren, often imparting his wisdom with wit, while unload ing thousands of cases of Girl Scout cookies or dispensing mechanical advice from afar. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his love of British comedies, his ability to know the score of the hockey game even though he seemed to be sleeping, and his ability to fix just about anything. He was an avid antique car and truck fan, and hockey enthusiast. He passed his humor down to his children, which he may well have regretted as he aged, since his children and grandchildren played many of his jokes on him. In 1956, he married Marion L. Johnson and the adventure began. Even with four children and a loyal dog in tow, they traveled extensively and spent many weekends camping in New England. Eventually they moved the family to Maine where they spent 17 years before retiring to Florida. After retirement, he and Marion traveled, relaxed at their camp in Maine and enjoyed their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife and soul mate, Marion; and their four childr en, Nancy Long and husband Darrell of Topsham, Maine, Alan Hunt of Odessa, Texas, Beverly Knapp and husband Dean of Kingfield, Maine, and Martha Augustine and husband Albert of Pittsburgh, Pa.; brother, E. Ritchie Hunt of Brooklyn, N.Y., and John and wife Patsy and their family of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Shara Chesley and husband Chris, Zoe and Andrea Long, and Alana and Jazmin Knapp; and great-grandchildren, Damara and Olivia Chesley. A private memorial service will be held later. Donations in memoriam may be made to the Owls Head Transportation Museum Education Fund, PO Box 277, Owls Head, ME 04854.
