Darrow Howell Baird, a resident of Scotch Plains, N.J., for over 50 years, died March 18, 2014, at the age of 82. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Ave., Westfield, N.J., with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Westfield. Mrs. Baird grew up in Portsmouth, Va., where she met and married her husband, Robert B. Baird, while he was an officer at the Naval shipyard. They were married for 53 years until his death in 2008. Darrow was a life master bridge player, playing in national bridge tournaments. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Westfield, and also an avid gardener, cultivating both flower and vegetable gardens. Devoted to her family, she is survived by three children: Arnold H. Baird, Susan D. Baird and Linda B. DePrima. She was also the loving grandmother to seven grandchildren: Daniel Gordon Baird, Sarah Joyce Baird, Kimberly Darrow Baird, Alexander Robert Kopp, Bradley Robert DePrima, Michael James DePrima and Matthew Thomas DePrima, and great-grandmother to Gianna Marie Baird.
