DANIEL C. GALLAGHER CHARLESTOWN, RI - Daniel C. Gallagher, 81, of Charlestown, RI, formerly of Ithaca and Newfield, NY, died Sunday, May 2, 2010. He was the husband of Mary (Carano) Gallagher. Born in Detroit, MI, he was the son of the late Daniel J. and Frances Lara (Caldwell) Gallagher. Mr. Gallagher graduated from Ithaca High School, Ithaca, NY, in 1947. He attended Paul Smiths College, Saranac Lake, NY and Ithaca College. Mr. Gallagher served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Mobil Oil Corporation and ultimately retired in 1992 from the Ithaca City School District after serving as the district plumber for 18 years. Mr. Gallagher was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 961 in Ithaca, NY. During his life, his passion for arboriculture remains evident in the beautiful trees he planted at his former home in Newfield, NY, and his home in Charlestown, RI. Besides his wife, of 54 years, he leaves a daughter, Mary Lynn Whittaker of Ithaca, NY; a son, Michael Gallagher of Coventry, RI; a daughter, Frances Eames of North Kingstown, RI; a son, David Gallagher of Warwick, RI; five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
