CHARLOTTE MARY TULLY Died peacefully on August 23, 2011 at the age of 89 at the Villa Care Centre in Midland from complications following a stroke in May. She was born on July 13, 1922 in Sioux Lookout, Ontario and was the daughter of Dr. Edmund and Mary Isabelle Day. She attended public and high schools in Sioux Lookout and then went on to MacDonald College at the University of Guelph. She graduated with a B.A. from University College, University of Toronto in 1944 and attended Teachers College the following year. While at university, she joined and remained a lifetime member of Alpha Chi Omega Fraternity. She taught high school in Cobourg and then Midland, Ontario, where she met and married T. James Tully. From early in her life and with her love of the north where she was raised, Charlotte enjoyed the outdoors. She first worked as a counselor at Camp Shawanaga in Port Severn. She always enjoyed many sports including badminton, curling, cross-country skiing, swimming and golf. She belonged to many golf clubs over her lifetime and also enjoyed bridge, travelling and loved music. In her last few years, she belonged to the Askennonia Seniors' Choir in Midland and appreciated the friendships she made there. She was a lifelong member of Knox Presbyterian Church and then, recently, St. Paul's United Church in Midland. Over her lifetime, she belonged to various service organizations where she contributed as a volunteer to her community. Charlotte also loved to spend time with her family in the summer at her beloved cottage on Georgian Bay near Penetanguishene. Charlotte leaves her 3 children: Nancy (Grant Peever), Mary (David Wilkins) and Tim (Danielle DesRochers) and her 5 grandchildren: Caitlin and James Meanwell, Sarah and Emily Wilkins and Olivia Tully. She is also survived by her brother Donald Day and his wife Lucille of Kitchener, her brother-in-law A. Russell Moseley of Midland and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, T. James Tully in 1981, and her sister Janet (Jean) Britnell of Willowdale. Cremation was arranged through Nicholls Funeral Home, 330 Midland Avenue, Midland, Ontario. Memorial visitation will be held at Nicholls Funeral Home on Thursday, September 1, 2011 from 6 to 9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's United Church, Midland, Ontario at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 2, 2011. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charlotte's memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Amnesty International, or to the University of Toronto, Division of University Advancement, Donations Management, J. Robert Prichard Alumni House, 21 King's Circle, Toronto, Ontario M5S 3J3 (please designate the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Education or University College). Thanks to the many family and friends who visited with Charlotte in her last few months in the hospitals and at the Villa Care Centre.
