REA, Charles "Chuck"January 12, 1931 – August 28, 2014Peacefully, at The Ottawa Hospital (Civic campus) age 83 years. Charles is survived by his wife of 21 years, Joycelyn Loeffelholz-Rea, son Doug, daughter Sherri (husband Glenn), daughter Cynthia (husband Paul), sisters Joan Bay (husband Paul) and Kay Howton (husband Jim) and stepson Paul (wife Marina), stepdaughter Ouida (husband Ahmad), stepson Hans (wife Heather); and 12 grandchildren - Lauren, Amatullah, Mitchell, Ameen, Lucas, Benjamin, Shae, Ihsan, Rachelle, Zoe, Dante and Barack. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Birdie, his first wife June Rea, and sister Elizabeth Rea. Charles was born on January 12, 1931 in New Liskeard, Ontario to Charles Edward Grey Rea and Birdie Tobler. He graduated from University of Toronto Schools in 1949 and from the University of Toronto in 1954. On September 15, 1954 he married the former June Adams in Aurora. He was employed as news editor at Canadian Press, and an English teacher at South Grenville High School in Prescott, Ontario. On April 3, 1993 he married Joycelyn Loeffelholz of Ottawa, Ontario. Charles was a writer, poet, painter and appreciator of the arts, including theatre and music. He was a member of a number of community groups and associations, including the Jamaican Ottawa Canadian Association, Ottawa Life-long Learning, various Unitarian groups including the Writers' group, Men's group, and Arts Night Core Committee. He was also a past member of the Brockville Theatre Guild, and Ottawa Bahai Writers' Group. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at the First Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa, 30 Cleary Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario, K2A 4A1. Reverend John Marsh will be officiating.
