Avis de décès de Charles-Martin Adams


Funeral for Charles Martin Adams, 87, of Decatur will be today, Nov. 19, 2004, at 2 p.m. at McConnell Memorial Chapel in Athens with Dr. Curtis Coleman and Dr. Glenn Conner officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Adams died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, at his residence. He was born April 20, 1917, in Elbert County, Ga., to Charles Emory Adams and Grace Thornton Adams. He was educated in the Georgia public schools, earning a BBA degree from the University of Georgia. His graduate work was done at the University of Oklahoma. He enlisted in the United States Army in the spring of 1941. Following his military years, he was employed by the Atlanta General Depot. He transferred to Redstone Arsenal in 1956 and retired in 1972 from the Army Missile Command. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Athens where he served as treasurer and official board member for several years and was a member of the Hunter Sunday school class. He was a 32nd degree Mason with the Huntsville Scottish Rite. As an avid golfer, he belonged to the Athens Country Club, serving as president and board member for a number of years. Mr. Adams was a member of the Lions Club, serving in several official positions and working diligently with the Athens Kiddy Carnival. He was also a member of the Athens American Legion, DAV and VFW. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Naomi Adams; two daughters, Marcia Helen Silva and Margaret Susan Cobb, both of Decatur; three grandchildren, Charles E. Cunningham of Savannah, Ga., Stephanie Cunningham of Lebanon, Tenn., and Ashley Cobb of Decatur; and three sisters, Margaret Griffin of Texas, Janice Ashead of Jacksonville, Fla., and Sandra Pittman of Douglasville, Ga. Pallbearers will be family members.In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of the Valley, American Heart Association or to First United Methodist Church of Athens.
