WAYLAND Bertha F. (Adams) Welch, 96 died on Thursday, June 25, 2009 at the Wayland Nursing and Rehab Center following a period of declining health. She was born in Cambridge on December 4, 1912 the daughter of the late Herbert E. Adams and Ruth M. (Stewart) Adams. Bertha was the beloved sister of Evelyn M. Adams of Somerville and William J. Adams and his wife Barbara A. Adams of Burlington. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. She was the wife of the late William H. Welch who died on Nov of 2002. She was the sister of the late Annabelle Butchard; Ruth L. Papaleo, Herbert R. Adams and Robert E. Adams. Bertha spent her formative years and was educated in Cambridge. She later resided in Brighton before moving to Wayland in 1955 with her husband. She had a long and distinguished career as a bookkeeper at Nickerson Hardware in Allston. She was a longtime member and supporter of St. Annes in the Field Episcopal Church. She used her needlepoint skills to re-cover the kneelers at the church. Bertha loved to travel with her late husband especially their trip across country in 1977. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Visitations will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm ONLY at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (OFF Route 30), Wayland. Her funeral service will be on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at 10:00 oclock at St. Annes in the Fields Church, 147 Concord Rd, Lincoln. Interment will follow in the Stewart Welch family lot in Cambridge Cemetery, Cambridge.
