Benjamin Douglas 'Doug' AndrewsAddisonBenjamin Douglas "Doug" Andrews, 70, of Addison, beloved son, brother, father, grandfather and husband finished his work upon this good earth December 1, 2012 and will be returned to the Alabama clay he loved.Visitation will be held on Monday, December 3, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Addison, where services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Reverend Donnie Carroll and Reverend Kenny Sudduth will officiate. Burial will be in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery in Upshaw Community.He was a man of simple birth, strong character, and remarkable work ethic. He fathered two children and was married to the love of his life, "Margie" Andrews for 47 years. He wore many hats in his lifetime; farmer, athlete, soldier, foreman, father and pawpaw. To each he lent his leadership, strength, love, skill and tireless devotion; elevating himself from a poor boy that plowed a mule to a man of means whose family wanted for nothing.He was educated by an indifferent world and found little use for its fancier trappings, preferring instead the solace of the forests and the company of deer and fish. His word was his bond and he had no use for a man that acted otherwise. Honor, character and duty were more than words in a book; they were the units by which he measured himself and others.The word will little note nor long remember the journey of this poor boy from Winston County and so many more like him, but these common folk with easy smiles and glad hearts are the salt of this good earth and the very reason this path is worth traveling."Hoss" is survived by his wife, Marjorie Andrews; his son and daughter, Ben and Melody Andrews; three grandchildren, Erik Andrews, Shianne Rogers and Shannon Faulk; sisters, Dorthy Fletcher, Nancy Gatts and Jimmie Edwards; and daughter in law, Lee Ann Andrews.
