Barbara A. Ward DORSET, VT Barbara Ann Ward, 81, affectionately known to family as "Wardie", of Dorset, and Jekyll Island, Ga., passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at her home in Dorset. Born in New Rochelle, N.Y., she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elliot Wilkins. Barbara was married in 1952 to Russell W. Ward. At the time of her marriage she held 13 National Tennis titles. After being married, the couple moved to Moorestown, Pa. They later took up residency in Palm Beach, Fla., and spent their summers on the Jersey shore in Spring Lake, N.J. In 1990 Barbara moved to Dorset, and had spent the last six winters in Jekyll Island, Ga.After becoming a member of the Everglades Golf Club in Palm Beach, Barbara took up golf and later went on to become club champion. Barbara had been a member of the Palm Beach Bath and Tennis, Wing Foot Golf Club, Spring Lake Golf Club, Spring Lake Bath and Tennis and Key Largo Anglers Club. In addition to tennis and golf, she loved traveling, having a good laugh with friends, and was said to have a real zest for life. Barbara loved to read and spend time with her cat and dogs, Sam, Winston, Maggie and Lyly. From 1979 to its close in 1990, Barbara was a partner and co-collaborator in a successful craft business lovingly named "Wardies Woodies."Barbara leaves her son, Michael Ward and his wife, Kathy, and their son, Ryan; her daughter, Shelby Ward and her children, Tyler and Lacy; and her closest and dearest friend of 40 years, Gail Burlington, and Gail's children, Rick Fittin and Kiernan Difeo. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Barbara's memory be made to the Second Chance Animal Shelter in Shaftsbury, Vt. c/o BREWSTER FUNERAL SERVICE, P.O.
