January 4, 2007 Anne Simon, 81, of Syracuse, passed away Thursday at Iroquois Nursing Home. She was born July 18, 1925, to Rose (Barron) and David Joseph Arrin. She graduated with honors with a master's degree from Syracuse University. She was a seventh-grade teacher at Levy Junior High School until her retirement. Anne was proudest of her work with challenging students and of the theatrical productions with students at the junior high school. She was a member of the National Organization for Women since the 1960s, a life master bridge player and a longtime fan of SU football and basketball. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry Simon. Survived by her daughter, Randi Simon-Hordies; son-in-law, Mark Hordies; granddaughters, Kaitlyn Karpenko and Melissa Hordies; cousin, Jim Fera. Friends may call upon the family on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Whelan Bros. Funeral Home, 3700 W. Genesee St. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Organization for Women or the Golisano's Children's Hospital at University Hospital, who saved her granddaughter Melissa's life just after she was born.
