SOUTH DEERFIELD - Albert Noel Seymour, 92 of South Deerfield, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Sunday, April 27th, 2014, at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton. He was born in Easthampton, MA, to Henry and Alimina (Ethier) Seymour.Albert entered the United States Army in September of 1942, beginning his basic training at Fort Bliss, Texas. He served in Company B, 387th Infantry Regiment of the 97th Division in both the European and Pacific theaters. The 97th Division Company B is credited with firing the last shot that ended the war in the European Theater. Albert was granted an Honorable Discharge in February of 1946 from the United States Army. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He returned to Easthampton, MA, where he met and married his wife, Anna Morawski of Whately, MA. In the mid-1960s Albert taught industrial woodworking in his spare time at the Hill Institute in Florence, MA. He and his wife Anna later retired to South Deerfield where he loved working with wood, building homes, creating custom cabinets and watching all the New England sports teams. He delighted in playing with his faithful dog, Holly, traveling within the U.S. and Europe for his Company B reunions and spending time with family. Albert was also actively involved with the local veterans association. After Albert's retirement, some of his and Anna's memorable travel experiences were trips to many U.S. Army installations in the United States, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and the Great Ocean road of Australia, Normandy, France and Pilsner, Czechoslovakia. Albert was preceded in death by his brothers, Henry and Leonard Seymour, and sisters, Doris Prusak and Pricilla Hatch.He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Anna Pauline Seymour of 67-plus years and his children, Dennis Seymour and his wife Lisa of Holyoke, MA, Edward Seymour of Sunderland, MA, and Joyce (Seymour) Twarog of South Deerfield, MA; his five grandchildren, Amy (Seymour) Beckwith and husband Chris, Timothy Seymour and his wife Melissa, Emma Jane Seymour, Jenna Lyn Seymour and her finance Andre Sample, Mathew Seymour, and five great-grandchildren, Ashley, Caitlyn and Christopher Beckwith and Devin and Morgan Seymour. Visitation services will be at the Wrisley Funeral Home, 90 Sugarloaf St., South Deerfield, MA, on Thursday, May 1st, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.Funeral services will be held Friday, May 2, at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in South Deerfield, MA, with burial to follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in South Deerfield, MA. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made in Albert's name to Holy Family Roman Catholic Church or the Veterans Administration Hospital in Leeds, MA.
