MATTHEWS, Albert William "Al," 88, of Seffner, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2006. A resident of Superior Residences, he had resided in the area for 28 years, coming from Crown Point, Ind. He was in the U.S. Navy as a chief motor machinist aboard the Mine Sweeper YMS-408 "Lucky Lady" during World War II, serving throughout the Pacific Theater, and retired after 42 years with U.S. Steel. He is survived by his sons, Bill Matthews, Seffner, and Robert "Bob" Matthews, Osseo, Minn.; daughters, Becky Whitfield, Kalamazoo, Mich., and Bonnie Roehrborn, Plymouth, Ind.; daughter-in-law, Barbara Matthews, Seffner; brother, James Mathews, Mount Horeb, Wis.; sister, Bertha Shea, Kinsington, Md.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be conducted 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home, 6919 Providence Road, Riverview, with the family receiving friends one hour prior to services.
