Adele Dowling Pickens Adams 1920 - 2013 SPRINGFIELD - Adele Dowling Pickens Adams, 93 of Springfield, MA passed away January 23, 2013 at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Mobile, Alabama on February 6, 1920 to the late Lucille Pickens. She was also predeceased by her husband Charles R. Adams and her sister Ellene Taylor. Adele graduated of Prairie View A. &.M. College in Texas. She also graduated at Springfield College with a M.A in Education. She started her professional career in 1947, as a 1st grade teacher at East Union Street School, then Margaret Ells School and Indian Orchard Elementary. Adele was the secretary of the Springfield Education Association for many years. She was the Board of Directors of the Ballet Theatre in Springfield. Adele was a member of the CVRC Ballet Company for many years. She was a member of Adversary Board of Baystate visiting nurses and hospice. She was also a member of St. John Congregational Church for more than 50th years, where she taught Sunday school for many years and served as an Usher. Adele was also a long time member of Links. Adele is survived by her sons, Richard W. Adams and Bruce H. ( Sharon) Adams, two grandchildren, Caleb W. Adams and Benjamin J. Adams, also a host of nieces and nephews. Adele will be remembered for her kind, gentle and caring ways. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. The calling hours are Friday, February 1, 2013 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at St. John Congregational Church followed by the funeral at 12:00 noon. Burial will be at Mass Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
