Angela Polsinelli Serafini, 89, of McGovern Dr. passed away July 11, 2011 at Mercy Life Care Center in Guilderland. Born in Carnello, Italy on August 30, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Antonia Petti Polsinelli. Angela was the oldest of seven children when she arrived to North America with her parents and siblings to New York City in 1938 aboard the ocean liner Rex. She became a U.S. citizen. Angela took a job as a nanny/housekeeper in 1939 employed by the Palma Lumber Company. She attended night school at the former Nott Terrace High School where she had to learn a new language. There she met her husband, Luigi Serafini. They married in 1945 at a ceremony at St. Anthony's Church in Schenectady. Angela now was a homemaker and several years later began raising her family. She prepared many meals enjoying the Sunday afternoon preparations for family gatherings. Holiday get togethers was especially special to Angela. Often food was prepared right from her garden where she always had vegetables to give to neighbors and visitors to her home. Her green thumb cultivated several amazing fruits and vegetables, her most favorite being her fig trees. Angela was a longtime communicant and supporter of her church. She said novena prayers regularly to her patron saint Anthony of Padula. She was a member of the Sacred Heart League and looked forward annual visits to the shrine at Saint Anne in Canada. Her beloved husband Luigi passed away in 1995. She was predeceased by siblings, Federico, Clemente, Biagio, Philomena (Valentine) and Peter Polsinelli. The family wishes to thank Fr. Richard Carlino and Sr. Maria Rosa for their spiritual guidance; Dr. Steven Goldberg and staff of Schenectady Capital Care, Dr. David Armenia and staff of Schenectady Cardiologists; O.L. of Mercy Life Care Center, Angela's private care givers: Onetia Hardick, Barbara Cesario, Carolyn Smith and Mary DiDonna. Survivors include her children, Angelo Serafini and his wife, Maureen of Guilderland, Rocco Serafini and his wife, Ann of Niskayuna, Antonette Mykolaitis and her husband, Victor, and Philomena Husko and her husband, Alan, all of Guilderland. Angie leaves behind her grandchildren, Suzanne Plue (Joshua), Angela Jones (Joshua), Stoyka and Danase Serafini, Louis, Helen and Olivia Serafini. Her cherished great-grandchildren are Nicholas and Alyssa Plue and Evan Jones. She leaves her loving sister, Lucy Polsinelli and sister-in-law, Vincenza Polsinelli of Schenectady. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 18, at 8 a.m. from the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd., Glenville, followed at 9 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony's Church, Seward Place in Schenectady. Calling hours will be Sunday (July 17) from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Glenville Funeral Home. Entombment in the Family Mausoleum at St. Anthony's following the Mass. The Bereavement group and the Sacred Heart League will hold a service on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Angela's name to St. Anthony's Church, 331 Seward Place, Schenectady, NY 12308. www.glenvillefuneralhome.com
