Avis de décès de William-John Dawson


DAWSON, William John - September 25, 1921 - September 30, 2007 - Peacefully on September 30 at Vineland United Mennonite Home, in his 87th year. Beloved husband of Dorothy (2005) and loving father of John Dawson, Mark (Kathy) Dawson and Kathy (Mike) Ryckman. Dear grandfather of Luke and Christine Ryckman, Alena Dawson and Tina (Demetri) Chimbos. Great grandfather to Calista and Eva Chimbos. Brother of Walt, Joyce, Joan and predeceased by Audrey. John was born in Hamilton and completed post-graduate studies at McMaster and Queen's Universities. He served with the Royal Canadian Engineers 1940 - 45 in Canada, Great Britain and Europe following which he was employed in business and industrial accounting in Hamilton. He commenced municipal service in 1958 in the Clerk and Treasurer's office in the County of Lincoln where he advanced to the position of Clerk and Treasurer in 1967. John was appointed to the office of Regional Clerk for the Regional Municipality of Niagara in 1970 and retired in 1984. John was a faithful member of the Queen Street Baptist Church, St. Catharines and a member and former Director of the Kiwanis Club of St. Catharines. He enjoyed travel with good friends and life with family at the cottage. He was also an enthusiastic gardener, and spent countless hours beautifying the Vineland Station home he shared with Dorothy. John's last years were spent at the Vineland United Mennonite Home where he received the best of care. He was eventually joined there by Dorothy and until she passed away in April 2005 she was never far from his side. John loved life and had many friends, but his struggle was long. He will be remembered with great love but he has earned his peace. Cremation has taken place, with interment to follow in Hillside Cemetery, Ridgeville. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 3 between 7 and 8:30 p.m. at TALLMAN FUNERAL HOME, 3277 King Street, Vineland, with Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 4 with fellowship in the Fireside Room following the Service. If desired, donations in John's name and memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society. 10848321
