Avis de décès de William Macfarlane

William "Bill" MacfarlaneJuly 19, 1951 - September 17, 2016It is with incredible sadness but unspeakable joy that we announce Bill''s peaceful passing into God''s presence while being held in Becky''s arms on September 17, 2016. Bill is survived by his best friend and wife of 43 years, Becky (Reimer) and his three wonderful sons, Daniel (Jennifer and grandchildren Elizabeth and Lucas), Kalamazoo, Michigan, Timothy (Robin and grandchildren Seth and Asher), Surrey, BC., and Eric (Susan), Ottawa, ON. He also leaves his in-laws, Art and Erna Reimer of Saskatoon; two sisters, Marg Pepper (Bob), Smiths Falls, ON and Lynne Bilson, Ottawa, ON; his sister and brother-in-law Karen and Dennis Pottage, Winnipeg, MB and brothers-in-law Garth (Sarah Robertson) Reimer, Victoria, BC and Tim Reimer, Nakusp, BC. As well, he leaves numerous nephews and nieces. Bill was born July 19, 1951 in Ottawa, ON to Bill and Gladys (Downey) Macfarlane. He grew up in Smiths Falls, ON and obtained his BA and BEd from Queen''s University in Kingston, ON. While travelling in Europe in 1971-72, he met Becky. They hitch-hiked together from France to Greece, where they fell in love, and subsequently married in 1973. They lived in various communities in Ontario while Bill attended university and Becky worked as an R.N. In 1978, they moved to Luseland, SK, where Bill commenced his teaching career before beginning his school administrative career in Paynton, Lloydminster, and Swan River, MB. During that period, Bill obtained his Masters of Education. He was Superintendent of Schools in Russell, MB for 2 years, then moved to Saskatoon in 1990 where he was appointed Assistant Director in Saskatoon West SD. He became the Director of Education for Saskatoon West in 2001 and finished out his full-time career in Prairie Spirit School Division. Following his retirement in 2008, Bill provided administrative services to Englefeld Protestant SD and Lutheran Collegiate Bible Institute, as well as contract work for the Saskatchewan Educational Leadership Unit at the U of S. Bill viewed his time at Saskatoon West as his career highlight. Throughout the years, Saskatoon became our home where our careers and family flourished. Bill was involved in coaching with several of the boys'' sports. Bill and Becky loved to golf, had many adventurous travels to other countries and later got a little place in California. They were looking forward to many more adventures together, but Bill''s medical issues interfered with their travels. However, God had other plans for Bill - He welcomed him into His kingdom many months ago when Bill acknowledged Jesus as Saviour and Lord of his life. Over the last 3 years, Bill and Becky have been overwhelmed by the support of the Saskatoon West staff and especially by the Forest Grove Church community. Bill has been immensely grateful for the supernatural peace and comfort that God has provided as he dealt with the last few months of knowing that death was imminent. The memorial service will be held at Forest Grove Community Church on Friday, September 23 at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Bruce Enns officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 339 Avenue C South, Saskatoon, SK S7M 1N5 or KidSport Saskatoon, 510 Cynthia Street, Saskatoon, SK S7L 7K7. Condolences at www.dalmenyfuneralhome.ca under "Obituaries". Arrangements are in care of Dalmeny Funeral Home (306-254-2022).
