Avis de décès de Stephen Carr

CARR, Stephen P.1936 - 2016Stephen Proctor Carr, MIMA , died peacefully at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre on August 9, 2016, after a short, but heroic, battle with pulmonary fibrosis, just 4 days prior to his 80th birthday.Steve was born on August 13, 1936 in Ottawa, the only child of Doris (nee Esdaile) and Sydney Carr. He attended Fischer Park High School and was active in the 1st chapter of the Queen''s (Boy) Scouts of Canada. He grew up in a multi-generational household and spent summers at the family cottages in the nearby Gatineau Hills. Since his mother and paternal grandmother (Caroline Lumsdale Carr) were both in poor health much of his life, his Aunt Marjorie (Carr) and Uncle Bud (Leonard Carr) were very active in his upbringing. Summers were a very important part of his life; as a boy, he spent them with his cousin Stuart Esdaile (predeceased) who was more of a brother than a cousin to him.His family''s strong musical roots did not manifest in Steve with musical talent, but rather in his affinity for numbers and arithmetic. This led him to a career as a property tax assessor, where his traits of fairness, precision, and justice flourished. He continued that career until he retired in 2001, a span of 46 years. On May 7, 1960 he married Irene Mooney in Ottawa and they settled Ottawa''s west end, later moving to Sharel Drive in Southeast Ottawa. After the passing of his father- in-law, Robert (Bob) Mooney, he and Irene took over the running of Bob''s market garden in Manotick, on the outskirts of Ottawa. There Steve continued Bob''s cultivation of numerous fruits and vegetables. In May 2002, Steve and Irene moved to Barrie to be closer to their daughter Susan (Sue) Carr and her husband, Trent Mayers. Once settled in Barrie, Steve took on post- retirement job as a security guard for several years before retiring a second time. In Barrie, Steve enjoyed attending numerous equestrian events to support Sue in competition. He became a regular spectator, volunteer, and assistant at various horse trials, dressage, and jumper competitions around the Central Ontario region. Another big part of Steve''s life was Freemasonry. Steve joined Rideau Lodge in Ottawa over 50 years ago and worked his way through the various chairs to Master of the Lodge. Afterwards, he joined Grand Lodge as District Secretary from 1992 to 1993. In 2003, Steve joined Kempenfelt Lodge in Barrie. His love of animals was evident in his constant companionship of dogs of all sorts over his life. He had very few years without the companionship of at least one dog in his home. Steve will be sadly missed by his wife Irene, his daughter, Sue and son-in-law, Trent, sister-in-law, Faye Barnes (nee Mooney), and other close family and friends including: Bruce Mayers (of Woods Park, formerly of Orr Lake), Daryl Mayers and Kim Stefaniuk (Toronto), several cousins, nieces, nephews, as well as Katie and Maui his canine children, and Caila and Maggie (feline grandchildren), and Clever and Pip (equine grandchildren). The family wishes to thank the staff at RVH Respiratory Unit for their support and compassionate care. Friends may call at Adams Funeral Home (445 St. Vincent Street, Barrie) on Friday August 12, 2016 from 2:00- 4:00 p.m. and 7:00- 9:00 p.m. A Masonic Service will be held under the auspices of Kempenfelt Lodge, A.F. & A.M. No. 673, G.R.C. at 7:00 p.m. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday August 13, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. with visitation from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: OSPCA, RVH foundation, Canadian Lung Association, Hospice Simcoe, or a charity of your choice. Messages of condolence may be forwarded to the family through adamsfuneralhome.ca
