Robert A. Regan passed away after a brief illness on October 2, 2011, at home, surrounded by his loving family, he was 76 years old. Bob, also known as Rex by his closest friends, was the beloved husband of Anne (Atchison) of 53 years. A retired Boston Police Officer, Bob was born and raised in South Boston. He graduated from South Boston High School in 1952 and served in the U.S. Army in Europe. He lived in Dorchester, Mattapan and moved to S. Weymouth in 1973. Bob was a long time drummer for the Boston Police Band, and the BPD Honor Guard. He was also in the motorcycle and special operations units. He also worked for State Street Bank security for ten years. Bob was the son of the late George and Helen Regan. He is survived by his four loving children, Trisha and her husband Richard Lewis of So. Weymouth, Kathleen and her husband William Barbati of Marshfield, Robert Jr. (Sgt. Weymouth PD) and his wife Jennifer (Tabeek) Regan of Weymouth and Michael Regan (Special Agent, FBI) of NY, NY. Brother of Phyllis (Regan) Adams of No. Easton. He had eight grandchildren Brian Lewis, Jacqueline (Lewis) Sprague (Simmons College PD), Ielish and Daniel Barbati, Sean and Connor Regan, Victoria and Gabrielle Regan and the late Christine Lewis. His first great-grandchild is due in November. Also survived by many friends and relatives. Bob was an avid sports enthusiast. He coached football for the Mattapan Packers in the 1970s, enjoyed softball, and supporting Weymouth High School Football. His true passion was the ocean; he loved boating, fishing and walking at Castle Island, Nantasket Beach and any other open body of water. Bob was an artist and a musician. His unique artistic talent and treasures were frequently on display outside the residence as well as given away. He took special pride in the letters received from military units he supported through his art pieces that have been displayed in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He was a great story teller and he always left you with a smile or a laugh. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. F.O.B. for 35 yrs. Visiting hours will be held at McDonald Funeral Home, 809 Main St., So. Weymouth, Wednesday, October 5, from 4 - 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier, Thursday, October 6, at 10 a.m.. Internment will be at the Bourne Veterans Cemetery, in Bourne, MA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 220 N Main St. # 104, Natick, MA 01760-1100.
