MacPHERSON - Robert (Bob) James October 19, 1953 - October 18, 2009 It is with indescribable sorrow and shock that we announce the sudden passing of Bob who, in his own words was "just an average guy". In his usual way of understatement Bob was far more than that. He was the cherished husband of Deb (Baba Seibold), stepfather of Alena and Kirsten (Seibold), the beloved son of Isabella and predeceased father Malcolm, brother to Marg (Harry), Mary (Gord) and Barbara. He had 3 nieces, 4 nephews and 2 grand-nephews. He embraced his new family with open arms and valued his friends and colleagues. Throughout his 35 year career in the grain industry and Grain Workers Union Local 333, Bob tried to ensure a harmonized and productive work environment for both union members and management. Bob's last role was as President of the Union for 10 years before retiring to Gibsons last October. He also worked on the Union's pension plan and various boards of directors for the welfare and health of his labour brothers and sisters. He also helped many individuals in times of need with his support of AA and was an advocate of mental health. Bob loved his race horses, the stock market, traveling and poker. A very patient, knowledgeable and discrete individual, Bob was a magnet to those who "just needed to talk". A funeral service will be held for him at Eric Cardinal Hall, 930 Chamberlain Road in Gibsons on October 29th at 1 p.m. For those who are unable to attend there will be a celebration of his life at the Hastings Racecourse in the lower ballroom, 188 N. Renfrew St on October 30th at 1p.m. All are invited to attend on either or both days to say goodbye to just the average guy. In lieu of flowers please send a donation to the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation. Published in the Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from 10/27/2009- 10/28/2009
