GRANT (nee Wallace), Rita Mary - passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital on March 18, 2009. For over 60 years she was the beloved and loving wife of Henry (Hank). Together they raised seven children of whom they were very proud. Rita is survived by: her husband Hank; her children, Michael (Anne-Marie), Christine (Bill) Fleming, Catherine (Roderick) McHugh, Barbara (John) Trevisanutto, Brenda (Harvey) Walsh, Maj.-General (ret.) Timothy (Sharon), and Lt.-Colonel Patrick (Lindsey); her only sister, Catherine Wallace; 22 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Several sisters- and brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews also survive her. Rita was born in Port Arthur to Jack and Katie Wallace and lived here until her marriage to Hank, whose career in the Royal Canadian Air Force took them from the Annapolis Valley to northern Vancouver Island and back to northern Ontario. Following Hank’s retirement from the military, they lived in Sudbury and Belleville before returning to Thunder Bay. Rita had an incredible talent for making enduring friendships wherever she went. When her children were old enough, Rita pursued secretarial and banking work, where she was able to use her outgoing personality and love of people to best effect. Rita’s greatest joy was her family and her guiding light was her deep, Catholic faith. In retirement, she and Hank loved to travel across the country to visit their far-flung children, grandchildren and a vast network of friends. Daily Mass was a highlight of her days, at home and away. She was a life-long member of the Catholic Women’s League, actively supporting the organization in each parish she attended. Her parents and one infant granddaughter predeceased Rita. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2009 when family and friends will gather in St. Margaret’s R.C. Church for the Funeral Mass beginning at 1:30 p.m. celebrated by Rev. Richard Kowalchuk. Services will be complete in the church with a reception to follow in the Sargent Family Reception Centre. Visitation for friends will be held on Friday from 6-8 p.m. in St. Margaret’s R.C. Church where the Vigil Service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Arrangements in care of the Sargent & Son Funeral Directors, 21 N. Court Street. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Dew Drop Inn would be appreciated. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com 2009-03-20
