Raymond F. Wallace, 90, of Stuart, FL, formerly of Wareham and Hopkinton passed away Monday, March 16, 2015 after a short illness. Born in Lowell he was the son of Ella and Albert William Wallace. A former resident of Hopkinton and Wareham, he moved to Stuart in the late 80's to enjoy his retirement years. Educated in Lowell, at the age of 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He became a member of the Seabees and was assigned to duty in the Mariana Islands helping to build the airstrips and infrastructure necessary for the war effort, becoming what Tom Brokaw would call a member of the Greatest Generation. After being honorably discharged Ray met the love of his life,Theresa Michaud and they were married February 1, 1947. He worked at several jobs in the Lowell area before starting his career in the automotive industry in 1960 at the original G.M. plant in Framingham from which he retired in 1987. Ray loved boating, the ocean and camping spending his leisure time on Narragansett Bay early in his career on his boat Gansett Buoy. Later, while living in Wareham, he always loved being near the ocean with his family and taking many trips to see the national parks. He particularly enjoyed Florida's Intracoastal waterway and looking forward to visits from his chidren and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Theresa, a son Stephen F. Wallace of Stuart., his daughters Marie T. Flannery and her husband, Edward of Hopkinton., Patricia M. Spinks and her husband, Thomas of Hopkinton and Janet R. Martin of Cranston, R.I., eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Private services took place in Florida and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
