Avis de décès de Margaret-Jean McFarlane

COLQUHOUN, Margaret Jean (McFarlane) Margaret Jean Colquhoun (McFarlane), age 91, passed away peacefully in her family's embrace on March 22, 2008. Born December 26, 1916, and though in failing health of late, Jean's exuberant spirit continued to brighten the lives of everyone around her. Jean's home care was lovingly provided by her husband of sixty-one years - Malcolm (Mac), but in recent months she was a resident of Penticton Hospital Extended Care. She is sorely missed by Mac; daughter Rhonda and her husband Don of Penticton; son Ross and his wife Mary of Seattle; grandchildren Austin and wife Shannon, Gavin and wife Lana, Lauren and Devon; and great-granddaughter Lia. Jean was born in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan and received her primary education there. She was always an eager participant in sports - basketball, tennis, and softball, and she would skate for miles on the frozen creek in her beloved white speedskates. She lived in Maple Creek until 1943 when she left for Calgary to undertake her chosen profession of nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse from the Calgary General Hospital in 1946 with the gold medal. Jean married Mac in 1946; he had recently returned from the RCAF overseas. They began their family in Maple Creek. 1950 took them to California and 1953 back to Calgary. Calgary was good to Jean and was a favourite part of her life as she dedicated her considerable energies to her growing family and her many friends. 1971 took Jean and Mac to Thunder Bay, and 1977 to Penticton, where they retired early, actively and contentedly. Jean was a happy and compassionate woman with a quick wit who was satisfied with what and who she was. A devoted and loving wife and mother, she was also an avid gardener distinguished by a civic award. She was a curler, a ceramic artist, she sewed, knitted, and baked spectacular bread - every Tuesday. In her later years, while still able, Jean loved to walk the trails near their home on the lake. Jean's life and love will be honoured at a Graveside Service in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan on the May Long Weekend. In lieu of flowers please consider a small donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Published in the Calgary Herald on 3/28/2008
