GARRETT, Mabel Mary July 9, 1931 – March 2, 2012 It is with profound sadness that the family of Mabel Mary Garrett announces her passing on March 2, 2012 with her family at her side. Mabel was born July 9, 1931 in Bengough, SK. She spent many years in Saskatchewan, raising her family and forming very strong friendships. In 1971, the family moved to Duncan, BC, where she continued to be very involved in the community and church. In 1975, the family moved to Calgary, AB, where she continued to raise her family and dedicated many hours of service to the community. Mabel is survived by her children: Sharlene (Glen), Howard (Brenda), Barbara (Michael), Kelly (Margaret), Colleen, Beverly (Warren), and Susan-Marie (Bruce); her treasured grandchildren: Coby, Jessica (Mike), Katie (Andrew), Douglas, Jamie (Brad), Jody (Kevin) Steven (Barb) Ashley, Tessa, Matt (Tabi) Jeremy, Lindsey, Adjil, Arlen, and Addie; fifteen very special great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces. She is also survived by brothers-in-law: Jack, Richard, and Mac Garrett; sisters-in-law: Shirley Ellis, Betty, Fran, and Joyce Garrett; and many cousins including her best friend Lola Gerde. She was predeceased by her life partner and best friend William Edgar Garrett; infant son James Emery; parents Isabella and Earl Ellis; in-laws Howard and Christina Garrett; brothers: Norman and Ray Ellis; brothers-in-law: Robert, Donald, Harold; sisters-in-law: Jan and Shirley Garrett; and Geraldine Ellis. Our mom was never defeated by what life presented her. She was principled and full of such grace, goodness, and generosity of spirit and so amazingly open to the world. She was dedicated to her faith and church family. She had so much to teach us all. Funeral Services will be held at St. James Anglican Church (6351 Ranchview Drive N.W.) on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. She was such a beautiful and shining soul and will be forever missed. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. James Anglican Church. Funds will be distributed to Parish programs that were important to Mabel.
