CARR, Lawrence Caldwell October 10, 1919 - October 12, 2008 Lawrence Caldwell Carr was born October 10, 1919 at Sunnydale, AB on his parents' farm, and attended school at Sunnydale. He joined the army in Calgary in 1939, went overseas and spent four years driving an armoured car through Italy, Germany, France and Holland until the end of the War. While lying on the damp ground in Holland waiting for their turn to be shipped back to England, he contracted pleurisy. He spent thirty-six months in a hospital in England, before being shipped back to Calgary to the Colonel Belcher Hospital, then to Edmonton to the Veterans' Hospital and finally back to Calgary and was finally discharged. Lawrence married a neighbor's daughter, Mary Kulyk on November 14, 1947, and they bought a farm where they raised cattle and farmed for twenty years, despite having problems with his weak lungs. Their daughter Sharon was born in 1948 and son Lorne was born in 1952. Later the family sold the farm and moved to Edmonton. Lawrence was in real estate and worked for Gainers Meat Plant until he retired. Having problems with rheumatism, the family sold the house and moved to Calgary where they have since resided. Lawrence suffered a broken hip with complications and died peacefully in the I.C.U. at Foothills Medical Centre at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 12, 2008 with his family by his side. Mary and Lawrence would have been married sixty-one years in November. He is survived by his loving wife Mary, daughter Sharon, son Lorne, granddaughter Kim, sister Myrtle and nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all. Funeral Services will be held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 - 4 Street N.W. (within the valley of Queen's Park Cemetery), on Friday, October 17, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery.
