Mr. Kenneth John Quarry October 16, 1915 - December 4, 2008 Kenneth John Quarry BA and KSt.J. Ken passed away peacefully at the Regina General Hospital on December 4, 2008. He was predeceased by his first wife Hazel (Stewart) in 1969; second wife Betty (Sellar) in 2005; parents Walter and Emily Quarry; brother Guy and sister-in-law Jean; and niece Jannet and Martin Don. Ken leaves to mourn his sister Joyce Zuk (George) of Langley, BC; nieces and nephews Brenda Cates of West Vancouver, BC, Barbara (Tony) Buckley of Peachland, BC, Maureen (Brian) Hake of Vancouver, BC, Lannie (Wendy) Strand of Vancouver, BC and Gayle (Ernie) Darke of North Vancouver, BC; sister-in-law Agnes Marton (John) of Buena Vista, SK; nieces and nephew Diane and Katie of Saskatoon, SK, Gwen (Larry) Andrei of Terrace, BC and Christopher (Judy) Harrison of Regina and great nieces and nephews. Ken was born in Lumsden on October 16, 1915 and while growing up his family lived in Riverhurst, Regina Beach and Regina. He attended Scott Collegiate then Balfour Collegiate and then Normal School for a teaching certificate in electricity. Ken taught at Balfour Collegiate from 1937 to 1963, he then transferred to the new Thom Collegiate to continue teaching and was head of the Shop Department until he retired in 1972. Ken attended the University of Saskatchewan summer schools until he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He was an active volunteer for 40 years with St. John Ambulance; he was given an Honorary Life Membership in 1956, and promoted to the grade of Knight of Grace in the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in 1976 and Provincial Commissionaire for Saskatchewan from 1974 to 1980, then he stepped down from serving with St. John Ambulance. He was a member of Westminster United Church, serving in many capacities over the years. Sports played an important role in Ken’s life - playing hockey, ball (catcher), curling, tennis and golf. He enjoyed watching football and was a long time Saskatchewan Roughrider season ticket holder. Many thanks to the Victoria Park Personal Care Community for their care and support over the past two years and thank you to Dr. Vermeulen and nurses at the Regina General Hospital for their kind support in his final days. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at the Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, Regina, SK on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at 10:00 a.m., with Reverend Ken Powers officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Westminster United Church, 3025 13th Avenue, Regina, SK S4T 1P1. Arrangements entrusted to Regina Funeral Home (306) 789-8850.
