Karin Prugnarola-Ballard, RN, and a Bedford resident for 56 years, passed away peacefully June 5, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Joseph Ballard with whom she shared 22 years of marriage. Karin is survived by her devoted daughter Gina Louisa Ballard and dear brothers Lawrence Prugnarola of Bedford and Philip Prugnarola of Windham, NH. Karin was born in Concord, MA. She is the daughter of the late Merna and Lawrence Prugnarola of Bedford, MA. Karin received her RN degree from Mass Bay Community College. She was an active member of St. Michael Parish, and participated in the Virginia Thurston Healing Group of Harvard, and Meals on Wheels. For fifteen years her compassionate spirit touched the lives of many people as a home health care provider and volunteer. She was always one to find the excitement and fun in every situation. She will be sadly missed. Friends and family will gather in Bedford's Shawsheen Funeral Home on Thursday June 7 and Friday June 8. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 9 in St. Michael's Church in Bedford. Burial will be in Shawsheen Cemetery, Bedford. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the "Karin Prugnarola-Ballard Scholarship" Fund, TD Bank, 175 Great Rd., Bedford, MA 01730. A scholarship will be awarded to a Bedford High graduating senior that is pursuing a career in nursing who embodies Karin's spirit of compassion.
