LEOMINSTER -- Joseph E. Allain, 79, of 161 Spruce St., Leominster, died Friday, March 18, in River Terrace Healthcare, Lancaster. Born in the Otter River section of Templeton on June 24, 1925, he was the son of the late Edgar and the late Edmee (Thibodeau) Allain. He grew up in New Brunswick, Canada, and was educated in Canada. Mr. Allain was 21-year veteran of the U.S. Armed Services, serving three years in the U.S. Navy and 18 years in the U.S. Army. He had been employed by Foster Grant in Leominster for 20 years. He and his wife, Carolyn J. (Gaudreau) Allain, celebrated their eighth wedding anniversary on Nov. 9, 2004. Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters, Dorine Macharrie and her husband, Jim, of Wisconsin, Patricia Benoit and her husband, Roland, of Minnesota, and Cathy Rochette and her husband, Robert, of Leominster; two sons, John Allain and his wife, Laurie, of Fitchburg and Steven Allain and his wife, Maureen, of Leominster; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Jessica, Anthony, Philip, Theresa, Vincent and Dominic; one great-grandchild, Jade; two sisters, Dorine Daigle of Canada and Rose Dupuis of Gardner; and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by three brothers, Andrew Allain, Levi Allain, Emil Allain; and by a sister, Adreane Melanson. ALLAIN -- On March 18, Joseph E. Allain, 79, of Leominster. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, March 23, at 10 a.m. in St. Leo’s Church, 128 Main St., Leominster. Burial in the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery, Winchendon, will be private at a later date. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, March 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. at M.A. Simard & Son Funeral Home, 14 Walker St., Leominster, MA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
