Sentinel & EnterpriseSPRINGFIELD, Va. -- John Michael Regan, 54, of Springfield, Va., formerly of Leominster, Mass., died on Sunday, Oct. 27, in his home of lung cancer after becoming ill two months before. Born on March 18, 1948, in Leominster, the son of Gertrude Beatrice (LeBlanc) and John Kenneth Regan. John was the first son and second child of seven.Mr. Regan attended St. Leo’s Elementary School in Leominster and Notre Dame High School in Fitchburg, Mass. graduating in 1966. In high school, John was on the debate team, active in the Key Club, participated in the Science Fair, and was a stalwart offensive lineman on Notre Dame’s most successful football season in history. Upon graduation, Mr. Regan joined the United States Marine Corps. He served with Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine Division and Co. K, 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines, 2nd Marine Division. He was an infantryman (GRUNT) participating in 20 Combat Operations in the Republic of Vietnam and received numerous medals, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, Purple Heart Medal, Presidential Unit Citation and Good Conduct Medal (1st award). Upon completion of his Marine Corps enlistment, he joined the Army. He was stationed in several foreign countries during his military career. While in Korea he met and married Sukae Kim of Seoul and later had two children, Linda Ann and Michael John. Mr. Regan retired in 1987 from the Army as Chief Warrant Office 2 after serving his country for over 20 years. Mr. Regan was the third of three generations to have served our country during War. His father, John Kenneth, served during World War II and was awarded the Silver Star and his grandfather, John Francis served during World War I. He was employed as a calibrationist for Unified Industries, Inc. in Springfield, Va. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, camping and cooking.Besides his mother, Gertrude Beatrice Regan of Leominster; he leaves his wife of 13 years, Mary Lynn Regan of Springfield, Va.; a son, S/Sgt. Michael John Regan, USMC and his wife, Rebecca, stationed at Cherry Point, N.C.; one daughter, Linda Ann Regan Boland and her husband William of Fredericksburg, Va.; a grandson, John Kenneth Regan II and a granddaughter, Kaitlin Nicole Regan, both of Fredericksburg, Va.; two brothers, David Mark Regan of Tiverton, R.I. and Robert Francis Regan of Leominster; four sisters, Patricia Ann VivoAmore, Kathleen Ann Clark, Colleen Ann Regan, all of Leominster, and Maureen Ann Piermarini, Wallkill, N.Y.; two step-sons, Christopher and Sidney Mortensen and one step-daughter, Angel Mortensen Waldo, all of Virginia; several step-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.REGAN -- On Oct. 27, John M. A Mass will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27 at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church, Springfield, Va. and interment will follow at 3 p.m. with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. Services were held on Wed, Oct. 30 at the Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Dr. in Alexandria, Va.
