O'NEILL, James H. M.D., C.M., F.R.C.P. (C). Suddenly and peacefully at St. Mary's Hospital on May 13, 2004 in his ninety-second year. He was predeceased in November by his wife of sixty-one years, Madelene Hersey. He leaves to mourn and celebrate his good life, daughters: Sharon (Bob Smallhorn) and Sally (Bob Lewis) in Toronto; Stephanie (Dr. Skip Kerner) and Sheelah in Montreal. "Grandoc" will be lovingly remembered by his ten grandchildren; David and Brian (Sandra) Smallhorn, Chris and Tim (Jan) Lewis, Matthew, Jamin, Emily and Sarah Kerner and David and John Attala; and by great-granddaughter Aiden Lewis. He is also survived by his loving sister Carmelita O'Hagan of Vancouver. He is predeceased by his brothers William and John and sister Mary (Thompson). He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Jim grew up in St. Andrew, N.B., graduated from St. Francis Xavier University and began his Montreal practice in 1941 after his graduation from McGill Medical School and residencies at John Hopkins in Baltimore and Childrens' Hospital in New York. He was a valued Chief of Pediatrics at St. Mary's Hospital for many years and a long standing staff member at the Montreal Childrens' Hospital. He continued to see patients into the early 1990's. The family would like to thank the staff of Place Kensington for their care of Dr. O'Neill these past few years. Visitation at the Kane & Fetterly Funeral Home, 5301 Decarie Blvd, (corner Isabella) on Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Malachy's Church (Isabella and Clanranald) on Monday, May 17 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Mary's Hospital Foundation, 3830 Lacombe, montreal, Qc, H3T 9Z9, or to the charity of your choice.
