WATERVILLE -- J.C. Abel Grenier, 88, of Waterville passed away at Thayer Unit, MaineGeneral Medical Center, on Wednesday, April 27, 2005.Abel was born in Waterville on Nov. 10, 1917, the youngest of four children born to the late Cheophas and Leontine (Lemelin) Grenier. He was educated at Waterville schools and then joined the Navy. After the service he went on to work for Hollingsworth & Whitney Co., Scott Paper Co. and then retired from Kimberly-Clark Paper Co. in 1980.Abel is survived by his wife, Donna Grenier of Waterville; a stepson, Wade Swett of Solon; a daughter, Pamela Tardiff and husband Gerald of Oakland; two grandchildren, Lance Tardiff of Oakland and Derek Tardiff and wife Leslie of Bangor; and several nieces and nephews.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Monday, May 2, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Monument Street in Winslow.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Waterville Homeless Shelter, Ticonic Street, Waterville, ME 04901, or the Humane Society, Waterville Area, Drummond Avenue, Waterville, ME 04901.Arrangements are under the care of Veilleux Funeral Home, 8 Elm St., Waterville.
