HERBERT HORATIO (HERB) SUMMERS Herbert Horatio (Herb) Summers passed away Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox, B.C. after a courageous battle with cancer. Herb was born March 9, 1917 in Riverhurst, Sask. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, of 54 years; two sons, Gary Summers and Mark Summers of North Vancouver, B.C.; two daughters, Gail (Walter) Palubski of Prince George, B.C., and Beverley (Bruce) Turner of Courtenay, B.C.; grandchildren, Allison, Leah, Erin, Stephen, and Darcy; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers and sister. Herb will be well remembered for his active involvement with St. George’s United Church. He worked as a mechanic for more than 50 years, and enjoyed his garden in his leisure time. He loved planting and caring for his flowers and vegetables, and had a green thumb as everything he touched flourished. A service of remembrance was held Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998 from St. George’s United Church in Courtenay, with Rev. Jim Massey officiating. Flowers gratefully declined. In memoriam donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, #102-1509 Cliffe Ave., Courtenay, B.C., V9N 2K6. Comox Valley Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1101 Ryan Rd., Courtenay, B.C., were in care of arrangements.
