Helen Corinne Ling (née Hastings) June 23, 1929 - December 16, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Glen Eden Funeral Home (Winnipeg) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Ling. With her family by her side, she passed away peacefully at the Riverview Health Centre on Friday, December 16, 2005. Helen was predeceased by her husband Wilfred, parents, Stanley and Emma Hastings, sister Glenys and brother-in-law Paul Hlady. Left to cherish fond memories, her life companion Richard (Dick) Smith, daughter Dianna (Bob), step-children, Lori, Linda, Shelly, Patti and Rick. She will also be missed by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, too many to name. She was born and raised in Foxwarren, MB. and moved to Winnipeg to continue her education where she met and married Wilfred Ling. Unfortunately, Helen was widowed in 1958, leaving her to raise her only daughter. She was reunited with her childhood friend Dick and together they spent 36 memorable years. She was very proud of her 32 year career with Air Canada & enjoyed many luncheons with her fellow retired coworkers. She travelled frequently to Vancouver to spend time with Dianna, her granddaughters Rhonda, Cheryl (Tim), Elisa (Paul), and treasured great-grandchildren Brandon, Hayden, Ethan, Tim, Sean, and Eric. Helen loved her family in Winnipeg including her sisters’ children and their families. She happily took over the role of Mom and Grandma to everyone. The love and welfare of her family was the most important thing in her life. She was very proud of all of them and their accomplishments. Helen was an exceptional character who was known for her kind heart, smile and ability to make you laugh. The family would like to thank the staff at Riverview Health Centre for the care given in her final days. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, December 20 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, R3G 9Z9. “Gone but not forgotten.
