George G. Willis FRAMINGHAM George Gibson Willis, M.D., 94, a prominent retired orthopedic surgeon, died peacefully on Friday, July 3, 2009, at his home in Framingham. Born in Framingham, son of the late Charles C. and Gladys (Wheeler) Willis, he was the husband of 70 years of Bertine (Niles) Willis. Dr. Willis was a graduate of Eaglebrook School, Deerfield Academy, Amherst College, and Jefferson Medical School in Philadelphia. Dr. Willis practiced as an orthopedic surgeon in Framingham for 32 years and in his retirement, worked summers at Hansons Farm in Framingham. He served as a Framingham Town Meeting member and chairman of the Edgell Grove Cemetery. He enjoyed woodworking, bee keeping, tennis, skiing, fishing, firewood cutting and the Red Sox. Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Bertine Slosberg and her husband, Ken, of Santa Cruz, Calif.; two sons, John Willis and his wife, Kathleen, of Ely, Minn., and Tim Willis and his wife, Robin, of Randolph, Va.; his daughter-in-law, Nancy Willis of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; one brother, John Willis of Belfast, Maine; two sisters, Barbara Heinrich of Baytown, Texas, and Harriet Williams of Haywood, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was father of the late Jeffrey Willis and brother of the late Roger Willis. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 11, at 1 p.m., at the Plymouth Church, 87 Edgell Road, Framingham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Deerfield Academy, Development Office, Deerfield, MA 01342 in memory of George G. Willis (35). Arrangements are under the direction of the Eugene J. McCarthy and Sons Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St., Framingham.
