TURNERS FALLS - Ellen M. (Earley) Sicard, 99, of Park Villa, died Sunday (10-6-13) at Poet's Seat Health Care Center in Greenfield.She was born in Montague on Aug. 5, 1914, the daughter of Charles and Ellen (Bauch) Earley. Ellen attended local schools in Montague and was a graduate of Turners Falls High School, Class of 1931 as Pro Merito. She continued her education at Northampton Commercial College.She was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church.Ellen was a homemaker. She worked part-time for the Montague Assessor's Office and at Equi's Candy Store.Providing a comfortable home for her family was Ellen's vocation and they shared many holiday dinners and Wednesday evening suppers.Ellen was an accomplished seamstress and a voracious reader, enjoying thousands of books and audio books. The Carnegie Library was her favorite place in town.Among her survivors, Ellen leaves a son, Ronald (Constance) Sicard, Sr. of Turners Falls; a sister, Elizabeth Treml of Greenfield; her grandchildren, Donna (Peter) Pierzchala of Greenfield, Lori Mumblo of Pittsfield, William Sicard of Greenfield, Ronald (Kris) Sicard of Turners Falls, Sharon (Jimmy) Hall of Tallahassee, FL, and Mark (Donna) Sicard of Northfield; 10 great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren; a niece, Diane Sicard, and two brothers-in- law, Robert Sicard of Turners Falls and Terry Sicard of Gill.Ellen was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Joseph W. Sicard in 1981; a son, J. Robert Sicard; a grandson, Larry Sicard; a brother, Carl Early, and a sister, Marguerite Zayac.A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday (10-9-13) at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church with the Rev. Stanley J. Aksamit, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Aaron Clarke Cemetery in Turners Falls.A calling hour will be held Wednesday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carnegie Public Library, Avenue A, Turners Falls, MA 01376 or to the Poet's Seat Health Care Center Activities Fund, 359 High St., Greenfield, MA 01301.Sympathy message available at: www.kostanskifuneralhome.com
