PATTIE, Elizabeth Anne It is with deep sadness that we announce Anne's death August 19, 2008. She died at home, surrounded by her family. She will be missed by all who knew her indomitable spirit, her warm, loving friendship and her will to win on the tennis courts. Anne was born in Calgary, December 2, 1930 and was predeceased by her parents, Beige and Herbert Webster. She moved with her husband and three daughters to Nanaimo in 1960. For thirty-two years she was an active supporter of her husband with the Boy Scouts of Canada. She was one of the first staff hired by the fledgling Malaspina College and took up tennis at the age of fifty, going on to be ranked No. 1 in the B.C. Ladies Doubles tennis in her seventies. A believer in volunteerism, Anne filled many roles in her community, including being president of the B.C. and Yukon division of the Canadian Cancer Society. She is survived by her husband Dave Pattie, Nanaimo, daughters Dianne (Peter) Salmon, Victoria, Barbara (Rick) Heikkila, Nanaimo, Susan (John) Chase, Fort Saskatchewan, grandchildren Jayne Hendy, Emily Story, Carly, David and Kate Heikkila, Stacey Pyke, Tyler and Jacob Chase, great-granddaughter Teddi Chase. She is also survived by sisters Margaret Lenz, California, Jill Moroney, Calgary, brother Stephen Webster, Edmonton, and numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and the U.S. A celebration of her life will be held at an open house at the Westwood Racquet Club, 2367 Arbot Street, Nanaimo, on Saturday, August 30, 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
