Avis de décès de Edith-Anne Lee


LEE, Edith Anne, Edith Lee passed away March 8, 2005 at the Linhaven Home for the Aged. Born in Trenton Ontario, on March 6, 1918, Edith grew up in Norval, near Georgetown. After graduating from high school, she attended Nursing School at the Toront o Western Hospital. It was there she met many of the young women who would become life-long friends. After graduating, she joined the Canadian Army, already at war in Europe, as a nursing sister in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. During her ti me in the army, she served overseas in England, France and Germany with a dedication that was her hallmark throughout her career in nursing; including being Mentioned in Dispatches for her actions. It was during this time in Europe that she met Capta in John Charles Lee, a young pharmacist in the Medical Corps whom she would marry and start a family with after the war. After living in Saskatchewan and Delhi, Ontario, Edith and her family came to St. Catharines in 1960. She continued her nursing c areer at the Hotel Dieu Hospital and retired in 1975 as the head nurse on Ward 2C. Edith and John were avid duplicate bridge players and long term members of the Dalhousie Yacht Club, where they had sailboats named Speedy Edie and Lady Edith. Her ret irement was greatly devoted to her family with an increasing number of grandchildren. In 1992, she suffered a massive stroke which necessitated her spending her remaining years at the Shaver Hospital, and eventually Linhaven. The family is grateful f or the kind nursing care she received over the years of her illness. Her husband John, whose dutiful care and visitation made her illness bearable, predeceased her in 1997. Edith Lee is survived by her children James (Karen), Marion (Martin Kaal), Pa tricia and John (Nike). Grandchildren are Margaret and Robert Kaal, and Gregory, Andrew and David Lee. She is also survived by four great grandchildren. There will be a memorial service at HULSE & ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 75 Church Street, (905 -684-6346), on March 14, 2005 at 10 a.m. Cremation has taken place.
